Crate Privacy Policy
Last updated: December 23, 2025
Crate (“the App”) is an iPhone app for music discovery. This Privacy Policy explains what information Crate collects, how it’s used, and your choices.
What Crate Collects
1) Favorites/ Likes (CloudKit)
-
If iCloud is enabled for Crate, the App uses CloudKit to store and sync your liked tracks (and related app data like favorites) across your devices.
-
This data is stored in your iCloud account. Crate does not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, or Apple ID credentials.
2) App Settings (UserDefaults)
-
Crate stores certain preferences on your device using UserDefaults (for example: filter selections, onboarding completion, UI preferences).
-
This data stays on your device unless you enable iCloud sync features (if applicable).
3) Diagnostic / Server Logs (Backend)
Crate’s backend may store limited diagnostic logs to keep the service reliable and secure, such as:
-
timestamps,
-
request paths/endpoints,
-
basic device/app context (when provided),
-
error messages,
-
and may include network information such as IP address and user agent (common in standard server logs).
These logs are used only for debugging, performance, reliability, and abuse prevention.
What Crate Does Not Do
-
No ads.
-
No selling of personal data.
-
No data “tracking” across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising.
How Crate Uses Your Information
Crate uses the data above to:
-
sync your likes/favorites across devices (CloudKit),
-
remember your settings (UserDefaults),
-
operate the feed service and troubleshoot issues (diagnostic logs).
Sharing & Third Parties
Crate may rely on service providers to run the app:
-
Apple (CloudKit / iCloud) for syncing data,
-
Hosting/infra providers for the backend (e.g., where logs and the feed service run),
-
Data storage providers used by the backend (e.g., Redis storage for the feed).
Crate only shares data with service providers as needed to operate the app and provide core functionality.
Crate may also provide deep links that open content in third-party apps (such as Apple Music or Spotify). Your use of those apps is governed by their own privacy policies.
Data Retention
-
CloudKit data (likes/favorites): retained until you delete it (see “Your Choices”).
-
Device settings (UserDefaults): retained on your device until you reset/clear the app or uninstall.
-
Backend logs: retained for a limited period for debugging/security, then deleted or anonymized (typically within 30 days).
Your Choice & Data Deletion
You can delete your data in these ways:
-
In-app: remove liked tracks
-
Uninstall the app: removes local data stored via UserDefaults.
-
iCloud: you can manage and delete Crate’s iCloud/CloudKit storage in your device iCloud settings (Manage Account Storage).
You can also contact support to request help with data deletion.
Security
Crate uses reasonable safeguards designed to protect data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect information from unauthorized access
